Information
The Saubhagya Scheme or Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana is an Indian government project to provide electricity to all households. The project was announced in September 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that the aim was to complete the electrification process by December 2018. Certain households identified via the Socio-economic and Caste Census (SECC) of 2011 will be eligible for free electricity connections, while others will be charged Rs. 500 Rs. On 16 November, the government launched a website saubhagya.gov.in to disseminate information about the scheme.
Eligibility
All un-electrified households in rural areas as well as poor un-electrified households in urban areas are eligible for electricity connection as per the scheme guidelines.
Citizen will not be eligible to get new connection under Saubhagya, if the earlier connection was disconnected due to default in payment of electricity bill and dues are still outstanding or not paid till date
Application Procedure
DISCOM of the area would organize camps in villages/ cluster of villages and prior information about such camps would be widely publicized
Citizens need to simply approach DISCOM officials in the camp and the application for the connection shall be registered on spot
Electricity connection shall be released by the DISCOM after due verification, mostly on spot
Information about the camp can also be sought by approaching the nearest DISCOM office for necessary guidance
